If you haven’t yet met Mother Gavrilia, today is your lucky day. The book about her, Mother Gavrilia: the Ascetic of Love, changed my life.
” … whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.” — Mark 10:44 RSV

It is a very good book, I agree.

She just approached things so simply and beautifully and got right to what’s important. I love the fact that she encourages people to pray “thank you, thank you, thank you” over and over at times. That always felt right to me.
And so many other things she said are just so right on. Take a look at the list of her quotes on Orthodox Wiki: wonderful stuff!
Also, she helped make monastics and monastic life more approachable for me, more like real people. I like it!
So many wonderful things about her… :-)

I’ve been wanting that one for a while. It’s expensive, but your post is inspiring me to get it anyway.
I’m a “thank you, thank you, thank you” pray-er too. :-)

I just discovered your blog today.
I loved this book. A friend borrowed it and it was all she could talk about for weeks.
Please visit my blog when you have a chance.

This was a great book! I think I’ll pull it out and re-read it, it’s been awhile!
