Vasnetsov’s Mother of God with the Infant Christ
I guess I have a weakness for these sort of over-the-top Russian icons. This one is by Viktor Vasnetsov (I adore most everything I’ve seen by him, actually). It’s called The Mother of God with the Infant Christ and it’s found in the apse of the Cathedral of St. Vladimir, Kiev.
I found it in the wonderful book Russian Design and the Fine Arts, 1750-1917 by Evgenia Kirichenko.
